Leitrim Holiday Cottages
County Leitrim is typically Irish with vast hills and pastures, and green as far as the eye can see! With lakes and rivers across the county it is an unspoiled area and would be the perfect place for a relaxing cottage holiday.
Although County Leitrim is an inland County it is defined by its waterways and is the perfect holiday location for those who love water activities. The Shannon Erne Waterway, which is the longest inland navigable waterway in Europe, stretches throughout the county and is a great place for canoeing and kayaking.
If water sports aren't quite your cup of tea, County Leitrim has no shortage of friendly local pubs where you are likely to happen upon an impromptu traditional music session the likes of which you have never seen!
County Leitrim has plenty on offer for visitors to the area. Boast trips are hugely popular in the county with Tullaghan and the Shannon Erne Waterway being popular for this as well as angling. Lough Allen is also a popular day out where you can rent a day boat or arrange a cruiser trip. Water sports here are also popular with the opportunity at Lough Allen Outdoor Pursuits to do wind surfing, open boating, Kayaking, rafting and also hill walks, treasure hunts and archery.
Other sporting opportunities in the area include Ballinamore Golf Club where you will find a nine hole golf course which is more challenging than you'd imagine or the Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club which is a full size 18 hole golf course that is surrounded by wetlands. Equestrian sports are also on offer with Doherty's Trekking Centre in Letirim Village being very popular with visitors.
The county also has a number of historical sites and museums such as Parke's Castle, Dromod Steam Railway, Sliabh A Iarainn Visitor Centre, Kinlough Folk Museum, Lough Rynn House as well as a number of abbeys. Other sites worth a visit also include the Glencar Waterfall, Corracloona Megalithic Tomb and Swan Island Open Farm.
