Visit Downton Abbey This Easter!

Here in the UK and across the Atlantic in America, Downton Abbey is an incredibly popular TV show. Depicting the early 20th Century lives of the patrician Crawley family and their servants, the latest series was watched every week by nearly 12 million people in the UK and, in the US, the show has broken ratings records to become the most watched show on PBS. Beloved by the masses, it has also received critical acclaim with Golden Globe Awards and Emmy Awards. In November 2013, ITV surprised no-one by announcing that Downton Abbey will return for a fifth series in 2014.

What many people don’t know is that although the series is set in a fictional country estate in Yorkshire, Downton Abbey is actually Highclere Castle in Hampshire. This is where exterior shots and much of the interior filming takes place.

The Castle and Grounds are closed at present, but they will shortly be open again to the public in Easter 2014 from Sunday 13th April to Saturday 26th April (closed Friday 18th April). If you would like visit this iconic castle and see where Downton Abbey is filmed, we have two holiday cottages nearby which will provide comfortable accommodation:

1) Gordon’s House (Ref. 11085, sleeps up to 7).

2) The Cottage (Ref. 5673, sleeps 2).
