The National Trust

The National Trust

One of the most eagerly awaited historical dramas for years, is the adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall. Hilary Mantel rewrites the history of England from 1527 to 1535 with Thomas Cromwell as the hero, and dramatical rise in the Tudor court. In this screen adaptation we see a selection of National Trust properties being used for the filming, and they all make for an attractive backdrop for jousting scenes in this new drama.

But of course National Trust properties have hosted a range of film shoots since the Sixties, Sense and Sensibility, Harry Potter and The Other Boleyn Girl to name but a few.

The National Trust holds events throughout the year and all over the country, they look after historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, farmland, moorland, islands, castles and nature reserves. Here we take a look at some of our favourites and what self catering accommodation we can offer in this area so you can make the most of your visit.

This Montacute House in Somerset represents Greenwich Palace, Henry VIII’s main London seat and the site of Anne Boleyn’s arrest in Wolf Hall, the adapted novel recently started on BB2.

Chatsworth House was where The Wolfman was filmed with Anthony Hopkins, it was an adaptation of the 1940s classic in which an American man is cursed from a bite from a werewolf. Interestingly, the scene where the house is on fire at the end of the film was actually a 24 foot tall scale model.
